AUG 15-SEPT 29

Are you interested in consecrating yourself to St. Michael? How about following the Franciscan practice of observing St. Michael’s Lent which is 40 days beginning on the Feast of the Assumption and ending on the Feast of St. Michael. Join us on Tuesdays for a weekly reflection and praying the Chaplet of St. Michael in the church after the Low Mass. The Novena to St. Michael will begin on Tuesday, September 20th and Consecration to St. Michael will be on Thursday, September 29th at the High Mass. Pick up a copy of the Chaplet of St. Michael to get started. St. Francis of Assisi fasted and prayed for these 40 days and received the Stigmata while praying on September 17th.

PHILOSOPHY NIGHT: THE ERRORS OF NOMINALISM

Tuesday, September 6th at 7 pm. Carmody Hall.

“Exaggerated Realism holds that there are universal concepts in the mind and universal things in nature. …Nominalism, on the contrary…denies the existence of abstract and universal concepts, and refuses to admit that the intellect has the power of engendering them. What are called general ideas are only names, mere verbal designations, serving as labels for a collection of things or a series of particular events. Hence the term Nominalism. Conceptualism admits the existence within us of abstract and universal concepts (whence its name), but it holds that we do not know whether or not the mental objects have any foundation outside our minds” (Catholic Encyclopedia). Fr. Eric Andersen presents this month’s discussion. Ages high school and up. No reading ahead necessary. Snacks provided.
